Born in London, Jeffrey Caine was educated at the Universities of Sussex and Leeds. He taught English in schools and colleges for three years before becoming a professional writer. Married in 1969 and widowed in 1995, he has two daughters and three grandchildren.
After writing mainly for British television between 1986 and 1992, during which period his own series THE CHIEF ran for five seasons, he has concentrated in recent years on screenplays. His previously produced screenplays to date are GOLDENEYE (1995), INSIDE I’M DANCING (a.k.a. RORY O’SHEA WAS HERE) (2004) and THE CONSTANT GARDENER (2005) and THE SONG OF NAMES (2019)
INSIDE I’M DANCING won an IFTA Script Award in 2004; and THE CONSTANT GARDENER was nominated for Academy, BAFTA and Writers’ Guild of America Awards.
Jeffrey is currently working on BELOVED FRIENDS – an original feature screenplay based on the courtship and married life of John Quincy Adams and Louisa Catherine Johnson between 1795 and 1801. Reminiscent of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in theme, tone and language.
And DARK GARDEN – an original animated film noir for kids set in a California garden and featuring a snail private eye.
