Gavin started his writing career as a short story and prose writer, as well as reviewing film, music and books for magazines. His acclaimed novel, “Hush” (a collaboration with Tim Lebbon) was published by Razorblade Press in 2000 and was short-listed for a British Fantasy Society Award in Best Novel category.
Gavin took part in Scottish Screen’s First Shot and Movie Makars workshops, then – after his successful first short film – he won a commission for HTV’s WESTERN LIGHTS talent strand.
In 2001 he received a Writer’s Development Bursary from Yorkshire Television.
In 2007 Gavin was part of Northern Film and Media and BBC Writersroom’s North East Voices scheme to develop TV series ideas with mentor Michael Chaplin (Monarch of the Glen). He was a finalist for the Red Planet Prize 2009.

– Developing 30′ comedy drama series with Newcastle-based production company RS Productions. Supported with development funding from Northern Film and Media. (2009).

– 60′ pilot for original science fiction drama series optioned by

BOFFINS – 30 min sitcom script developed with DLT Entertainment (My Family) and producer, John Bartlett (2007).
